Do you truly believe in yourself? Self-belief is the key to success. It acts as the connection between your attitude and enthusiasm, and your ability to inspire confidence in others. My good friend Dr. Stuart Bernsen, Founding Chairman of TVG-Medulla, LLC (the management company for Chiro One Wellness Centers and MyoCore), says it best when he states, “He who has the most certainty; wins!”
Without belief in what you do, not only will your motivation to pay the price necessary for excellence be low, but your faith that it can be achieved will also be lacking. As people attempt to grow, develop, or increase their success and satisfaction, they tend to focus on “the doingness of it” and little else. They overlook one of the two critical success elements for true achievement and fulfillment: self-belief (the other is positive attitude).
HISTORY: The common thread among all thought leaders, philosophers, and personal development experts is their consistent focus on positive thinking and self-belief. Dale Carnegie, author of the timeless ‘How to Win Friends and Influence People,’ said, “If you believe in what you are doing, then let nothing hold you up in your work. Much of the best work of the world has been done against seeming impossibilities. The thing is to get the work done.” See what I mean? Well, is that you? How deep is your belief?
CHALLENGE: Timeless quotes are truths that have endured over time. The trouble with quotes is that most people (not you, of course) see them quickly, fail to grasp their true power, and don’t take action. Or worse, they refuse to face reality. These quotes and truths often don’t resonate because they require you to confront yourself. They prompt you to reflect on where you are and where you want to grow. Among countless powerful thoughts and pearls of wisdom, Napoleon Hill, in his classic self-help book Think and Grow Rich, wrote, “Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe it can achieve.” My email inbox included this “quote of the day” from Maxwell Maltz, author of Psycho-Cybernetics: “Within you right now is the power to do things you never dreamed possible. This power becomes available to you just as soon as you can change your beliefs.” See the pattern?
Maybe you don’t want to change your beliefs. Or maybe you think your beliefs are strong enough. Perhaps they are, but if you’re not where you want to be and producing the results to back up your dreams, I doubt it. Believers overcome obstacles with value and passion. How about you? Do you believe enough to succeed? Do you believe enough to live with passion? Do you believe enough to enroll others to see your point of view, or your way as the best way?
“Mediocrity stems from lack of belief more than lack of skill,” and in my experience, I could not write words more true.
If you want to increase your chances of becoming more effective, deepen your belief system first. To do this, you must undergo intense self-evaluation. It’s not something you can learn in a seminar or training session; it’s something only you can give yourself. To discover “how,” you first need to ask yourself “why.” Why you believe or don’t believe, and what you need to do to strengthen your beliefs.
Here’s the best part: the stronger your belief, the more successful and fulfilled your life will be! Tomorrow, Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, at Gallery Guichard, located at 436 East 47th Street, Chicago, IL 60653, I’ll be launching not one, not two, but Lightning in a Bottle, round three!
