Friday, August 22, 2025, marked the end of one chapter and the start of what will be the third and most influential period of my life. After stepping down from daily operations at the company I co-founded with six remarkable partners in 2006, I am now fully dedicated to passing the baton forward in support of “The Impossible Dream”.
5,000 entrepreneurs sharing their gifts with the world to benefit humanity, while collectively amassing a $100 trillion net worth. This is a dream that far exceeds my lifetime and will take the rest of my life to accomplish.
The most common question I get when people hear this is “Why?”
My answer is simple: “Why not?”
There are two types of people in this world.
Those who hope something change…
And those who decide to be the change.
Entrepreneurs, like me, belong to the second group. They are the ones who look at what is—and refuse to accept that it has to be. They’re not just business builders; they are economic engines. Their importance shows up in very real, measurable ways across society. They create jobs, drive innovation, solve real problems, increase competition, and shape culture and possibilities.
Every successful company, from a local clinic to giants like Amazon or Apple, started as an entrepreneurial idea. Think about it:
Every job you’ve ever had…
Every product you’ve ever used…
Every breakthrough that made your life easier, faster, healthier, or better…
It all began as an idea in someone’s mind who was willing to take a risk. Someone willing to bet on themselves. Someone willing to hear “no” a hundred times… just to get a “yes.”
Entrepreneurs don’t just build businesses; they build possibilities. They take uncertainty and turn it into opportunity. They take vision and turn it into value. They take risks and turn them into results that impact thousands, sometimes millions, of lives. And they do it without any guarantee of success. I understand this deeply from my own experiences.
Here’s what many people miss. Entrepreneurship isn’t about money. Money is just the scoreboard. It’s about solving problems that matter deeply to the person willing to take the risk to provide a solution accessible to all facing the same challenge.
At their core, every great entrepreneur is driven by the same thing—not comfort or certainty, but a calling. A powerful internal pull that says: “There’s more in you and there’s more you’re meant to do.”
When you answer that call, jobs are created, industries are disrupted, communities are transformed, and lives are changed. Not someday in the future but today.
I am the embodiment of everything I share. I know firsthand the depths of despair, doubt, worry, and self-identity crises that accompany the excitement, celebration, and joy of building a business that serves humanity. I also know the odds of success are astronomically small compared to the probability of failure.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics:
80% of businesses survive their 1st year,
50% survive their 5th year,
33% make it to their 10th year,
23% survive 15 years or more.
Surviving isn’t the same as thriving. Most business owners are owned “by” their business rather than owning “the” business. If anything happens to the owner, the business is finished.
When analyzing the data further into success—defined as building a business that can scale and grow beyond the founder—the statistics are even more alarming:
15% of businesses ever generate $1M+ in gross revenue.
1.5% reach $10M+.
0.1% (1 in 1,000) hit $100M+.
I share this not to frighten you but to enlighten you. I’m in the 0.1% who know what it takes to build a business that reaches $100M+. I also understand what it looks like and what it takes to build a business you can walk away from, and it still thrives without you.
The real question isn’t “why do so many businesses fail?” but “what are the few that scale doing differently?” Success at this level isn’t accidental; it’s intentional.
